Mailing Lists

The list management page will allow you to create mailing lists specific to your site.  Mailing lists will allow you to send email to members of this list by simply sending to a single address.  For example, a recommended list for all units is LEADERS.  If you create a list called leaders a new email address will be created for your domain, ex: Leaders@Pack???.greatplainsbsa.org.  You can then add the email addresses of all of your leaders, (or they can Subscribe to the list).  After it is set up, you can simply send an email to Leaders@Pack???.greatplainsbsa.org and your message will be sent to all members of the list.

IMPORTANT!! You must add your own email address to the mailing list. This is a spam prevention measure. If you do not, your message will not be delivered.

There is no limit to the number of lists you can create.  Recommended lists examples include:

    Leaders
    Members
    Den?
    Committee

If you have not yet created any lists, you you see the following screen after selecting list management from the menu.

Click on the add mailing list button to add or manage a list.

Mailing List Name - This is the name that will become the email alias, ex: Leaders

Mailing List Password - This is the password needed to administer the list.

Allow User Subscriptions to List - This option will allow users to subscribe and unsubscribe themselves from the list by    sending mail to majordomo@pack???.greatplainsbsa.org or majordomo@troop???.greatplainsbsa.org with the words "subscribe listname" or "unsubscribe listname" in the body. (listname is the name assigned to the mailing list when it is created).  YOU WANT THIS TURNED ON  More info on subscribing

Allow Unsubscribed Posting to List - This option will accept mail to the list from email addresses that are not subscribed. If unchecked, the sender email address must exactly match one of the recipient email addresses.  Not turning this on prevents outsiders for sending mail or solicitations to your list.   YOU DO NOT WANT THIS TURNED ON

External Recipients - This is the list of email addresses that are external to this server that are members of the list.  All addresses in this list can send mail to the list and will receive mail from the list.  The administrator can manually modify this list or users can subscribe or unsubscribe from the list.

Registered User Recipients - This is a list of email addresses that have been created on this server.  Your unit can create 20 of the users.  Members of this list can send and receive email from the list.
